In September 2016 I was lucky enough to have the chance to interview some of our Scottish Medal winning athletes on their return from RIO. It was a great day that spread across 2 locations; The Oriam and Festival Square in Edinburgh.
I began at the Oriam. It was buzzing with media and fans eagerly awaiting the athletes. I managed to pull a few of them away from signing autographs for a quick word about how it was in Rio and what this amazing reception here at home meant to them. The athletes featured were Callum Skinner (Track Cyclist who won a Gold and a Silver in Rio), Karen Bennet (A Scottish rower who won a Silver in Rio) and Duncan Scott (A swimmer who won 2 Silvers in Rio). They were so humble and relaxed. Each of them gave me as much of their time as I needed. I could tell they were so happy to have played their part in the impressive medal tally for our country.
The reception at home had to be the cherry on top of an already immense cake. We then made our way to Festival square where fans had gathered in throngs to hear the athletes speak on stage about their Olympic experience. The set up was like one of the something like at T in the park and the attendance was not much different either!
It was a seriously great day to be a part of. I would say it was pretty much perfect, though I did manage to fall on the most slippy slabs ever- only to be warned by a security guard that it was unsafe AFTER I was on my back! Nonetheless, please note, no cameras were harmed in the making of this video:)!
Thank you so much, we’re so glad you enjoyed Paul’s post :)!
